02. THE DAY OF THE LORD HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES
In this video, we show that the prophecy of the Day of the Lord was not unique to the New Testament, but happened periodically in Old Testament times.
We are seeking to strip away the false assumptions and unbiblical “traditions of men” that hinder understanding the nature of “the Day of the Lord” or “the second coming,” as it is commonly called. The meaning of this event is obscured by futuristic assumptions and must be comprehended using a sound, contextual hermeneutic allowing scripture to interpret scripture. We are espousing “fulfilled eschatology”.
Hi, which day of the LORD is Joel speaking of in Joel 1 & Joel 2? Joel 1:15 & 2:1 says the day of the LORD is “at hand.” If this is an A.D. 70 reference, couldn’t other time statements in the NT be taken as in a distant future too? Or was Joel 1:15 & 2:1 referring to another day of the LORD in his time?
To my understanding, the Day of the LORD in Joel 2:28-32 is for the end of the Old Covenant age (A.D. 70) which Peter confirms in Acts 2. That makes sense but I’m just confused about Joel 1:15 and 2:1.
Thank you for your website.
Aaron, if this is a prophecy about the AD 70 destruction, I see no issue with Joel saying it is at hand…because he is not prophesying these events to his contemporaries as there is no evidence for it. But is a word for those living at the time when the prophecy will take place! We can’t argue the same to project the NT prophecies to 2000 years in the future from them because the writers of the NT have Jesus and the apostles talking about their own times! Audience relevance “This generation, Women weep for yourselves!!!!” etc…
